2017 Orange County medical reserve corps overview
Orange County is located in beautiful, sunny, Southern California with a population of approximately 3.2 million. It's home to some of the best and prettiest beaches in California as well as major attractions such like the Disneyland Resort, Knott's Berry Farm, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and Anaheim Ducks.
The Orange County Medical Reserve Corps was recognized by the Department of Health and Human Services, as a community-based volunteer unit to supplement existing community emergency response systems as well as contribute to meeting public health needs in 2005, under the sponsorship of the Orange County Health Care Agency. The unit organizes and increases the readiness of community |
volunteers to support the Health Care Agency in public health preparedness and emergency response. Members of the corps augment public health staffing in response to public health emergencies and assist in community education and engagement with regards to emergency preparedness.
If a man-made or natural catastrophic event occurred, the demand for public health and medical services could be overwhelming. As such, it is pivotal to be able to provide community members the opportunity to offer their valuable knowledge and services in giving aid to their family, friends, and community.
