What is a "Point of Dispensing" (Pod)?
A Point of Dispensing, commonly known as a POD, is a federally instituted BEST PRACTICE model for the dispensing of medication to a community of healthy people during a public health incident. PODs have three (3) main goals. These goals are:
The County of Orange uses the POD model to help with effectively utilizing the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) and providing medications to the county's 3 million residents within 48 hours.
To ensure that OCMRC members have adequate knowledge when responding and aiding in a POD, a training series has been developed below.
